Upshur County names new county road administrator

GILMER -- Upshur County Commissioners Court on Thursday named Steven "Andy" Jordan as county road administrator.

GILMER -- Upshur County Commissioners Court on Thursday named Steven "Andy" Jordan as county road administrator.
Jordan, 36, was chosen from 17 applicants for the post vacated by County Engineer Eric Fisher's resignation, which was effective in early December. Two of the other 16 applicants were engineers, said County Judge Dean Fowler.
A resident of Midway community in rural Upshur County, Jordan said he is a superintendent for Longview Road and Bridge, where he has worked two stints totalling about nine years. He also formerly worked for East Texas Bridge in Longview for about a year, he said.
Commissioners, who interviewed six of the 17 applicants over several weeks (including Jordan on Thursday), set his annual salary at $50,000 with a 6-month probationary period. He will assume his duties within two weeks.
He told The Tyler Paper he was attracted to the job for the purpose of "bettering Upshur County." A 1995 graduate of Ore City High School in the county, he grew up in the Cox community.
In making the motion to choose Jordan, Pct. 2 Commissioner Cole Hefner cited numerous qualifications, including Jordan's experience in building both state and county roads as well as bridges, and "my perception of his people skills."
