UPDATED: Wednesday, Jan. 30, 9:41PM
Staff Reports

A Kilgore man was killed in an accident involving an 18-wheeler south of Wills Point in Van Zandt County Wednesday afternoon.

Sgt. Michael Johnson, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the accident occurred at the 5515 mile marker on Interstate 20 east. He said that is about a mile west of Farm-to-Market 47, south of Wills Point.

The 18-wheeler was parked legally on the side of the highway, and for an unknown reason the SUV drifted into the truck sitting on the shoulder of the road, Trooper Jean Dark, spokeswoman for DPS, said. The SUV struck the truck from behind, killing Kilgore resident Buddy Ray Wilkins, who was in the SUV.

Wilkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
