Bakers wanted for chocolate dessert contest

East Texas bakers are encouraged to compete for chocolate dessert bragging rights on Saturday.

The Smith County Extension Education Association and Tyler Parks and Recreation Department are hosting the eighth annual Best Chocolate Dessert Contest at Tyler Senior Citizen’s Center, 1915 Garden Valley Road.

Entries will be accepted from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in youth (younger than 18) and adult divisions, organizers announced. Three prizes will be awarded in each division.

The fee is $1 per entry. The competition is open to all in East Texas, according to the announcement.

There also will be demonstrations on working with chocolate and information from vendors, according to the announcement.

Admission is free. Patrons can purchase chocolate snacks with proceeds to benefit youth programs at the city’s Glass Recreation Center.
