TxDOT readies I-20 for severe weather
Staff Reports

.

In anticipation of severe weather, Texas Department of Transportation crews will texture the pavement on eastbound portions of Interstate 20 in Gregg County during peak morning traffic hours Tuesday.

Larry Krantz, public information officer for TxDOT, said work will begin on the interstate between Texas Highway 135 in Kilgore and Farm-to-Market 2087 south of Longview.

Krantz said the interstate will not be closed due to the work, but motorists will have to be prepared to reduce speed and merge to avoid a working convoy.

Crews will texture the pavement on eastbound and westbound portions of the interstate for the rest of the week but will wait until rush hour is over to begin work, Krantz said. The measures will make the road safer in rain and other forms of inclement weather.

“Pavement texture is all about making road safer for inclement weather by improving roadway friction,” Krantz said
