BVT fundraiser benefits 'God's Forever Children'

Some people have never heard of Breckenridge Village of Tyler and don’t know about the good work it does. That’s a shame.

Located on a 70-acre campus west of Tyler, BVT is a supervised faith-based community for adults with moderate intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this safe and loving environment, the residents’ days are filled with programs that help them develop to their best of their abilities and get the most out of life.

I love the way the mission of Breckenridge Village is stated on its website: “Breckenridge Village of Tyler serves a group of very special people — God’s Forever Children — in a warm, safe, family-like setting that promotes individual development and independence.

It was created to answer the heart-rending question that every parent or guardian of an individual with special needs must ask: ‘Who will care for my child when I am gone?’”

Many residents have limited income and are unable to pay for the full cost of care. Dona-tions and financial support are welcomed and needed.

One way to support BVT is to buy tickets to its annual fundraising variety show, “A Night to Remember.” This year it will take place on Feb. 22 at KE Bushman’s Celebration Center in Bullard.

The show is billed as a fun-filled night of entertainment from days gone by.

The headliner will be Louise DuArt, a comedienne known for her funny impersonations of famous people and whose credits include touring the nation in the “Tim Conway and Friends,” show, says information from Linda Taylor, BVT’s director of development

Other acts will include The C, Taylor Heard, Emily Williams, November Roberts and Rambling Roses Square Dancers.

“Popcorn, compliments of Brookshire Grocery Co., and the famous ’50s soda pop bottles will all add to the total ambiance of this fun-filled evening,” says Ms. Taylor’s announcement.

The fundraiser is being sponsored Ed and Sandy King and Chick-fil-A and Pierre de Wet of Kiepersol Enterprises, the owner of Bushman’s.

Tickets cost $20 and are available at the Chick-fil-A restaurants on Troup Highway and South Broadway Avenue, the Brookshire’s store at 100 Rice Road, FRESH By Brookshire’s, KE Cellars, Chandler Drug and Texas National Bank in Bullard.

Proceeds will go to BVT’s Scholarship Fund.

Ms. Taylor is happy to provide more information about the show and the work of BVT, Contact her at 903-596-8100 or send her an email at ltaylor@bcfs.net.
