DOLPHIN STUCK IN BROOKLYN CANAL
A dolphin found its way into the headwaters of the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn on Friday. The canal has long been identified as a dumping ground for industrial waste and generally a symbol for urban decay.
The initial curiosity of the dolphin drew crowds, but those crowds are now concerned for the safety of the dolphin. The dolphin appeared to be having difficulty swimming in the narrow 1.8-mile-long waterway. A marine biologist has voiced concern for the creature since dolphins are known to be social animals that travel in pods. The police Emergency Services Unit and Harbor Unit were also monitoring the dolphin, but no rescue plans had been finalized.
