Rash of tire slashing reported in Whitehouse

Multiple residents in and around Whitehouse woke this morning to find someone had slashed the tires on their vehicles.

Whitehouse Police Chief Craig Shelton said he believes his department is working about 14 separate incidents and is afraid there could be many more that residents have not reported.

“One of our officers drove up on a guy in a jeep changing one of those real expensive tires. He thought he had just had a flat, but when the officer looked he could see the tire had been stabbed,” he said.

Shelton said he also is aware that Smith County Sheriff’s deputies are working several cases around the Lake Tyler Concession Road area.

“They’re just all over with cases out toward the Lake and some up and down Farm-to-Market 346. Most of the vehicles were parked on the road,” he said.

Shelton said most vehicles had at least two tires flattened and because of the amount of money involved the person or persons responsible will likely be facing felony criminal mischief charges.
