UPDATE: Authorities identified the 17-year-old who died in a car crash on Texas Highway 155 tonight as Caleb Luther, of Tyler.
A 17-year-old from Tyler died in a three-vehicle crash Thursday evening.
Trooper Jean Dark, public information officer with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the accident happened at 5:55 p.m. on Texas Highway 155 North near the intersection of County Road 313.
Trooper Dark said a truck driven by the 17-year-old was headed south and for an unknown reason veered into the oncoming northbound lane, striking another vehicle head on. She said a vehicle traveling behind the northbound car was not able to stop in time and rear ended the car in front of it.
Each of the vehicles carried one driver and no passengers, she said.
Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Mitch Shamburger pronounced the 17-year-old dead at the scene, and the drivers of the two northbound vehicles were taken to East Texas Medical Center–Tyler with non life threatening injuries, Trooper Dark said.
The incident remains under investigation.
