Suspect in Myrtle Springs sexual assault captured
An extensive search by law enforcement in Van Zandt County that began on Tuesday resulted with the apprehension of a man believed to have sexually assaulted a woman near Myrtle Springs.

Van Zandt County Sheriff Michael Lindsey Ray stated in a press release that the assault occurred about noon Tuesday.

Ray said the woman was able to give deputies a detailed description of the man and his vehicle.

As the investigation continued deputies were able to learn the identity of the man as Christopher Lee Pruitt, 29, of 2000 Payne Street in Hunt County.

Ray said that his agency along with investigators from the Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney's Office and Troopers with the Texas Highway Patrol were able to apprehend Pruitt, a registered sex offender, at the Hunt County address shortly after midnight this morning.

“The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office subscribes to the policy of maximum impact on the criminal violator. This is an example of how hard work, long hours and dedication to the law abiding citizens of our community, and effective law enforcement networking, enables us to identify, locate, and bring to justice those individuals who choose to harm our citizens and violate our laws,” he said. Sheriff Ray further stated, “We will continue our efforts, and use all available resources to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of Van Zandt County and do all we can to stop this kind of activity.”
