An East Texas man was critically injured in a one-vehicle rollover in Upshur County Sunday evening.

Trooper Brandon Love, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the accident occurred about 9:20 p.m. almost 2 miles north of Gilmer on U.S. Highway 271.

Love said the 2005 Kia Sorento was northbound when the 25-year-old female driver hit the brakes, causing the car to flip at least once. The vehicle landed facing south in the roadway, he said.

A 26-year-old male passenger, who officers believe to be from Longview, was taken by ambulance to East Texas Medical Center in Gilmer and air lifted to a Tyler hospital. Love described his condition as “critical at best.” The woman was also taken by ambulance with possible nonlife-threatening internal injuries, he said.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, but the female driver was, Love said.
