Smith County Democrats set to talk education funding
The Smith County Democratic Club will hold a forum to discuss public education funding in Texas inside the Genecov Room in the Chamber of Commerce Building, 315 N. Broadway Ave. at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Speakers will include representatives from the American Federation of Teachers, parents and students and a representative of Tyler Proud, which supports the latest school bond proposal.

The Smith County Democratic Party has committed to establish a Public Education Action Committee to support public schools and will be opening discussions with the forum.


WOMEN VOTERS
The League of Women Voters Tyler/Smith County announced its 2013 Great Decisions discussions calendar.

Great Decision discussions are annual events and will be held each Wednesday at noon at the Tyler Public Library, Jan. 16 through March 6.

On Wednesday, Tyler Junior College professor Stephen Stine will discuss the “responsibility to protect,” the doctrine central to modern humanitarian intervention and when the international community chooses to respond.

On Wednesday, Jan. 30, Jamal Moharer will discuss Iran-American relations and how suspicion has blighted relations for more than three decades.

WE THE PEOPLE
Grassroots America — We the People will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Cornerstone Assembly of God, 9107 Paluxy Drive in Tyler.

Mike Lee, a professional political and motivational speaker, radio talk show host and small business owner will be the guest speaker. He will speak against the attack on capitalism and the Constitution, according to the release.

Boxed lunches will be available for purchase or attendees may bring their own.
