Palestine man shoots self while buying gun; police investigate
Palestine police are investigating the shooting of Edgar Torres, 31, of Palestine, on Wednesday during a reputed attempt to purchase a gun, according to information from Sgt. James Muniz.
Officers were dispatched about 9 p.m. to Palestine Regional Medical Center where the victim was identified with a single gunshot wound to the right side.
During the initial stages of the investigation, the victim reported he was in the 400 block of Cherokee Street and was looking at a handgun that he was going to purchase when he caused the gun to accidentally discharge and was hit in the side. The victim was not able to give the names of any other person there at the time of the incident, police said.
Based on the information obtained from the victim, police determined that the victim was in Green's Park at the time of the incident, Muniz said. Officers went to the park but no evidence of a shooting was located, he added.
The victim was in stable condition at Palestine Regional Medical Center.
