Tyler burglar sought after being shot at Wednesday
Staff Reports

A man who burglarized a Tyler home before dawn Wednesday was uninjured after a resident of the house shot at him three times as he left the scene on foot.

The homeowner of the Barbara Street house told police that she and her children were asleep when she heard a loud crash in the front room of the home sometime before 4 a.m. She got up to investigate and found the front window broken. Apparently, the man threw a bicycle through the front window, police said.

The homeowner's 18-year-old son got up, grabbed a firearm and went to the front window that was damaged. He saw a black man wearing all black and carrying a duffel bag, standing in the front yard near the window. The son fired three rounds into the front yard, causing the man to flee the area.

Police checked the area, failed to locate the man and found no sign that anyone was struck by the gunfire.

Anyone with information about the person involved in this crime is urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833). Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the person in this case or any felony case.
