UPDATE: Dentist was in good mood at club the day of shooting, friend testifies

UPDATED Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 1:56 p.m. CST
Faith Fullerton, who works at the Willowbrook Country Club as an assistant manager in the grill there, told jurors this morning that Nichols appeared to be in a good mood on the day he allegedly shot his wife on June 29.

She said Nichols used to be her dentist and that she had known him for 33 years.

“He's one of the nicest men I ever met,” Ms. Fullerton said. The two hugged and she said Nichols was going from table to table in the grill while he visited with friends.
Fred Hull, a longtime friend of Nichols, told jurors he had never seen him argue with his wife.

Court recessed early today for a funeral and testimony will resume in the morning.

A retired Tyler dentist told a 911 dispatcher that he would have shot his wife a third time, but that the gun jammed. Bobby Ray Nichols, 76, faces up to life in prison if he is convicted of murder.

He also told the dispatcher that he shot Rosiland Nichols "because he wouldn't shut up and I went a little crazy."

Nichols told the dispatcher, prosecutor Richard Vance said, "to not make a big deal about this because this is a nice neighborhood."

David Dial, son-in-law of Bobby and Rosiland Nichols, said his mother in law was a wonderful grandmother to his children and encouraged her husband to be more active. Dial testified that Nichols did display a bad temper when the two would have arguments about how to cook dinner.
