Staff Reports

A man accused of robbing a gas station was arrested in a resident's backyard after a foot chase early Monday.

At 2:48 a.m., two Tyler police officers riding in the same vehicle pulled into the Food Fast Parking lot on 805 W. Houston St., according to a news release from the department.

The clerk told the officers she had just been robbed by a man leaving the store, the release states. Officers ran on foot toward the man, identified as Robert Jackson, 34, of Lindale.

Jackson is accused of fleeing the officers, crossing over Palace Street and then climbing a fence into a resident's backyard, the release states.

Backup officers surrounded the home and Jackson was arrested. An undisclosed amount of cash was recovered. As of Monday evening, Jackson remained in jail on robbery and evading arrest charges. His combined bond was set at $26,000.
