For the second day in a row icy conditions are causing motorists some problems on East Texas roads.

According to the Department of Public Safety several locations in Smith County are seeing icy roads.

A dispatcher in the Tyler office said Loop 49 has several places that are becoming problem area and said there had been several accidents and slide offs.

The bridge at Texas Highway 64 west and Loop 49 is also icing and causing problems.

Sand trucks from the Texas Department of Transportation are running non-stop to sand bridges, overpasses and other areas.

Larry Krantz, media relations for the Tyler District of TxDOT, said 12 sand trucks are currently operating in the county.

“We are headed to Loop 49 and we are also hitting spots on Interstate 20. We are running the 12-yard gravel trucks back and forth as quick as we can,” he said.

Authorities are asking for motorists to use caution on roads.

Icy conditions could continue to be a problem throughout the day as weather forecasts are predicting a 50 percent chance of frozen precipitation.
