Winter Weather Advisory In Effect From 3 a.m. to Noon Tuesday
Staff Reports

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory from 3 a.m. Tuesday to noon, encompassing areas south of Interstate 20, including Smith, Gregg and Cherokee counties.

Doc Deason, meteorologist with KYTX CBS19, said Smith County has a 20 to 30 percent chance of seeing freezing rain, but the chance is higher in areas south of Jacksonville, near the Panola County area. Though, temperatures should remain near freezing for most of the day, Deason said.

“The main concern in this situation is bridges, overpasses, (and) people who have steps outside their back door — things like that — anything that can cool from above and below,” he said.

On Monday morning, the Tyler Police Department requested that motorists avoid the overpass in the 200 block of East Gentry Parkway (east of Broadway Avenue), the overpass in the 700 block of North Beckham Avenue and the overpass in the 900 block of East Fifth Street.

Deason said the drivers should still be cautious on Tuesday, but the severity will depend on how fast the precipitation falls, if it falls at all.
