“Who’s In Charge? – How to Avoid Power Struggles with Children” is the topic for the Parent Services Center’s annual conference Jan. 26.
“Who’s In Charge? – How to Avoid Power Struggles with Children” is the topic for the Parent Services Center’s annual conference Jan. 26.
The event, scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is scheduled at the Rose Heights Church Conference Center, 2120 Old Omen Road, in Tyler.
Kelly Smith, a recognized child behavior specialist, is the featured speaker.
Ms. Smith is a licensed psychological associate with a master’s degree in clinical psychology. For 17 years, she has worked as a behavior specialist for Mesquite ISD.
She works with students, counselors, teachers and administrators in creating and implementing behavior techniques to help students learn to manage their behaviors at school and at home, according to information supplied about the event.
“Ms. Smith has 30 years experience working with children, teens, and adults with behavioral issues,” conference chairwoman Suzanne Brians said, according to a release. “In addition, she has recorded and co-authored works with the nationally known author and speaker, Dr. Ray Levy. She should provide valuable information for anyone who cares for children.”

The conference is open to the public. Registration is $25 prior to Jan. 19. Proof of attendance will be provided for parents, foster parents, and childcare providers and continuing education credit is available for professional counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists and teachers. Lunch will be provided.
