Annual Perryman address set for Thursday

Economist Dr. Ray Perryman will give his 29th annual Economic Outlook on Thursday in Tyler.
At the Tyler Economic Development Council and Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce’s Quarterly Membership Luncheon, Perryman will give his economic forecasts for the country, state and Tyler area.
The luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Green Acres Baptist Church CrossWalk Conference Center, 1607 Troup Highway.

Chamber of Commerce Chief Operating Officer Henry Bell said Friday morning that 525 tickets had been sold for the event and only about 25 remained to be sold for $25 each.
Perryman, president/CEO of The Perryman Group, a Waco-based economic research and analysis firm, said earlier this month that the outlook for the Tyler area is “decidedly positive.”
“The Tyler area did well in 2012 with rising employment, sales and incomes,” he said. “The health of the oil industry and expansion of the health care complex were major factors.”
Perryman said he believes the recent expansion of beer and wine sales will provide a stimulus to Tyler in 2013. “However, it is difficult to say what the biggest factor for the coming year will be,” he said.
The area has a complex economy that is tied to the national and global economies, Perryman said. It can be impacted positively or negatively by legislative actions in Austin or Washington, as well as the situation in Europe, the behavior of oil prices or myriad other phenomena.
Perryman, of Odessa, is a past recipient of the Outstanding Texas Leader Award and has been honored by the Texas Legislature for his efforts in helping to build a better Texas. He also has been selected as the 2012 Texan of the Year.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Baylor University and a doctorate in economics from Rice University. He also received an honorary doctorate from the International Institute for Advanced Studies. His firm engages in a broad range of complex projects for major corporate and governmental interests and has served the needs of more than 2,000 clients.
