Award-winning authors to visit Lindale campus

Brock and Bodie Thoene, award-winning authors of 65 works of historical fiction, will be at the YWAM Woodcrest campus in Lindale to teach a one-week writing workshop Jan. 28 to Feb. 1.
Brock and Bodie Thoene, award-winning authors of 65 works of historical fiction, will be at the YWAM Woodcrest campus in Lindale to teach a one-week writing workshop Jan. 28 to Feb. 1.
Their Zion Chronicles and Zion Covenant books on the birth of modern Israel and the Shiloh Legacy series about a family’s Depression-era struggles are among the most popular series of all time in Christian bookstores, according to the written release.
Students will have opportunity to attend a premiere in Tyler for their new film, Beyond the Farthest Star.
The workshop costs $300, which includes lunch daily and a ticket to the premiere. Woodcrest is also offering workshops in editing, magazine writing, children’s literature, journalism, thematic writing, ebooks and social media marketing.
The Thoenes (pronounced Tay-nee) have taught at Youth With A Mission writing schools in England and Hawaii but this is their first time at Woodcrest.
Bodie began her writing career as a teen journalist for her local newspaper in Central California. Eventually her byline appeared in U.S. News and World Report, The American West, and The Saturday Evening Post.
She also worked for John Wayne’s Batjac Productions (she’s best known as author of The Fall Guy) and ABC Circle Films as a writer and researcher. John Wayne described her as “a writer with talent that captures the people and the times,” according to the written release.

Brock has often been described by Bodie as “an essential half of this writing team,” according to the written release. With graduate degrees in both history and education, Brock has, in his role as researcher and story-line consultant, added the vital dimension of historical accuracy. Because of such careful research, The Zion Covenant and The Zion Chronicles series are recognized by the American Library Association as classic historical novels and are used to teach history in college classrooms.
Bodie and Brock have four grown children — Rachel, Jake, Luke, and Ellie — and eight grandchildren. Their sons, Jake and Luke, are carrying on the Thoene family talent as the next generation of writers, and Luke produces the Thoene audiobooks.
