Former Chief Joe Evans resigned effective 5 p.m. Wednesday to take a job with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, and Lt. Jamie Campbell is now serving as interim chief.
Campbell, 44, was a sergeant for about four years and has been lieutenant for about seven months.
“I'm very happy about it. I'm very happy to be moved up to this position and looking forward to my new title,” he said.
Campbell said he wants to continue what he has been doing — serving residents.
