A.M. update: Lincoln tops Oscar nominees; lost man found; several injured in bus crash

Smith County Sheriff’s Office was searching for an elderly Smith County man who went missing from about noon Wednesday to late Wednesday night. John R. Purdue, 79, was found in Sanger in Denton County at a convenience store, according to Smith County Sheriff’s Office. His family was notified and was very relieved Purdue was found safe. Purdue suffers from dementia.
A Greyhound bus crashed Wednesday in the Forney-Mesquite area, sending seven to the hospital. The bus was traveling from Shreveport to Dallas. The incident happened around 5 p.m. on U.S. Highway 80 West near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 740, according to Forney Fire Chief Rick Townsend. A car entered the highway and hit the bus. The bus driver was able to continue to Dallas. A total of seven people were taken to local hospitals. Others were injured but declined going to the hospital.
The 85th Academy Awards nominations were announced this morning. Steven Spielberg's biopic "Lincoln" led the nominations with 12 total. The other best picture nominees include: “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” “Life of Pi,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Les Misérables,” “Argo,” “Amour,” “Django Unchained,” and “Zero Dark Thirty."
But the morning’s real surprise was a triple snub in the best director category: Neither Kathryn Bigelow, who directed “Zero Dark Thirty,” nor Ben Affleck, who directed “Argo,” nor Quentin Tarantino, who directed “Django Unchained,” were included among the five directing nominees.
The Oscar telecast will be Sunday, February 24, 2013.
