Maureen Richmond, Greyhound spokesperson, said the bus was en route from Shreveport to Dallas.
“The bus may have made a stop in Tyler, but it was from Shreveport,” Ms. Richmond said.
Forney Fire Chief Rick Townsend said the incident happened about 5 p.m. on U.S. Highway 80 West near the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 740.
Ms. Richmond said a car entered the highway and hit the bus. The driver was able to continue to Dallas.
The bus did not leave the roadway and appeared to be in fairly good structural condition, Townsend said.
“The injuries (of those) that were transported appeared to be minor, (but) of course what develops late we don’t know,” Townsend said.
Ambulances from East Texas Medical Center, the Mesquite Fire Department and Rockwall County responded to the scene. Townsend said officials wanted to make sure there were enough to carry whoever was injured.
“We didn’t know how many patients we would end up with. … It’s always better to have more than you need,” he said.
The Forney police and fire departments also responded to the scene.
