AgriLife Extension to present opportunities to grow education

Several educational opportunities presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service that will be of interest to gardeners, growers and those in the landscaping business are coming up.
The East Tex-as Garden Lecture Series begins on Feb. 16 at Tyler Rose Garden Center with the program, “A Morning with Scott and Lauren Ogden.” The Environmental Horticultural Committee that plans this event revamped it from an all-day to a morning-only program.
Scott and Lauren Springer Ogden are nationally renowned garden designers and horticultural consultants. They have designed public and private garden spaces around the country, spanning many climate zones.
The Ogden’s latest book, “Plant-Driven Design: Creating Gardens that Honor Plants, Place, and Spir-it,” is the topic for their first of two talks. They will share their approach to designing gardens, and inspire you to look at your own garden space in a new way. The Scott’s “The Moonlit Garden” is the subject of the second lecture that morning.

On March 16, “Creating Creative Container Gardens” will feature three local garden experts designing various styles of containers. On April 13, Janet McKinney of Flower Hill Farm, a local cut flower grower, will present a program on growing and arranging cut flowers for home use.
Other educational events in February include the East Texas Turfgrass Conference at the A&MAgriLife Research and Extension Center in Overton on Thursday, Feb. 7.
Five TDA and four Structural Pest Control License CEUs will be given. Registration is $30 at the door and includes lunch. The full agenda is also posted on my website.
Finally, the East Texas Fruit & Vegetable Conference will be Feb. 26 at Tyler Rose Garden Center. More details on this event later.
