Excitement abounds as participants celebrate the final total of the Shine Your Light campaign — $219,509.
“This is the second-best year we’ve ever achieved with the campaign; it is exciting and joyful, and we celebrate, with our generous donors, the work of these worthy agencies,” Tyler Morning Telegraph publisher Nelson Clyde said.
Shine Your Light is an annual end-of-year giving campaign where East Texas residents can donate to selected nonprofits through the East Texas Communities Foundation.
“I’m thrilled with the result,” Mayor Barbara Bass said. “Tyler continues to be a community that cares about its own and support the nonprofits on the front lines of helping those in need. I’m thankful to be mayor of such a wonderful giving community.”
Representatives from the agencies themselves were rejoicing at the news as well.
“We are truly blessed to be included in the Shine Your Light campaign,” said Karolyn Davis, communications director for the East Texas Food Bank, one of the recipients of this year’s campaign. “We are amazed at how East Texans give year after year. The funds will allow us to provide food for children, seniors and adults who are struggling. Thank you so much to everyone who has given.”
More than $24,000 will be given to each of the charities.
