A maker is anyone who makes things, such as inventors, scientists, engineers, artists and anyone who enjoys using ingenuity and creativity to bring their ideas to life, according to the city of Tyler.

“Tyler is committed to creating an economy that celebrates and explores innovation,” Mayor Barbara Bass said in a news release. “The Tyler Maker Faire fits in perfectly with that objective and is a fun way to showcase the innovative aspect of our Industry Growth Initiative, our plan for economic prosperity and growth,” Mayor Bass said.

Exhibitors from East Texas and around the country will showcase their various inventions with demonstrations and invite people to participate, the release stated. The maker spectacle of science, technology, engineering and art is perfect for Discovery Science Place Chief Executive Officer Phil Lindsey said in the release.

“Science is about exploring, experimenting, reconceiving and examining ideas and using good old fashion ingenuity to bring what was created to fruition. Maker Faire does that in many different ways that are unique, interesting to watch, exciting to do and easy to re-imagine in contexts that engage the participants,” Lindsey said in the release.

Maker Faire is a family friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, according to the release. Community-driven, independently produced Mini Maker Faire events inspired by Maker Faire are being produced around the United States and the world. Tyler Maker Faire NC is in its inaugural year and is independently organized and operated under license from O’Reilly Media.
