Burial will follow in Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery in Tyler under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Roach passed away Jan. 4, 2013, under the care of The Hospice of East Texas.
She was born March 6, 1920, in Mount Pleasant to R. and Lena Edwards Harkrider.
Dorthea was lovingly known as “Nenaw,” “Nana,” “Grandma,” “Granny,” “Mama Roach” and “D.” She was a giver and servant in many capacities to her family and her community. Dorthea was a member of Park Heights Baptist church for more than 70 years and recently attended Pine Brook Baptist Church. Dorthea was featured in the November issue of Tyler’s “In” magazine as the oldest volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed volunteering her time and did so with Camp Sunshine (formerly the Soroptimist Club), Dixie Extension Education Club, as well as volunteering at many local nursing homes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Durward Roach; sons, Bill Roach and Butch Roach and daughter-in-law Judy Roach.
Dorthea is survived by her loving family including her daughter, Cheryl Roach of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren, Brett and Missy Sumpter of Tyler, Lee and Christy Roach of Lindale, Matt Roach of Tyler and Jon and Shawn Roach of Neches. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Sydney and Dylan Sumpter, Bradley and Lindsey Roach and Preston and Sarah Roach.
Visitation is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway in Tyler.
