Foreign policy discussions slated through March at Tyler library

Great Decisions, an annual foreign policy series, will take place at noon Wednesdays from Jan. 16 through March 6 in Tyler Public Library’s Taylor Auditorium, organizers ann­ounced.

Discussions are led by those with extensive knowledge of the topic.

The topics are:

Jan. 16: The mission and challenges of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization,

Jan. 23: The international community’s humanitarian aid resp­on­- sibilities and intervention polices in response to regional conflict.

Jan. 30: The history and state of relations between the United States and Iran.

Feb. 6: The Egyptian revolution and the state of democracy in the country.

Feb. 13: National security in the face of challenges of a weak economy, homegrown terrorism and international unrest.

Feb. 20: Democratic reforms in Myanmar and the potential new role the nation will play in Southeast Asia.

Feb. 27: The future of the Euro, the European common currency and how the state of the Euro affects the global economy.

March 6: The growing involvement of China in Africa and its ramifications on relations between the United States and African nations.

Participants are encouraged to bring their lu­nches.

A project of the national Foreign Policy Association, Great Decisions is designed to broaden und- erstanding of global affairs.

In Tyler, it is spo­ns-­ ored by Tyler Branch of AAUW, League of Women Voters of Tyler /Smith Co­unty and the Tyler Public Library.

Great Decisions briefing books, which explore each topic in depth, are on sale for $20 at Tyler Public Library and available for in-library use, according to the anno­uncement.
