Investigator in KFC murders dies at age 86

Well-respected Texas lawman Glenn Elliott died in Longview Monday, according to Jean Dark with the Texas Department of Public Safety. He was 86.
Elliott spent 38 years in law enforcement, working as a DPS highway patrolman and with the Texas Rangers.
Elliott was born Aug. 1, 1926, near Windom in Fannin County. He fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II and worked several jobs before settling into law enforcement.
He was stationed in Longview in 1949 and worked for the Highway Patrol for 12 years before transferring to the Texas Rangers in 1961. He retired from the Rangers and DPS in 1987, according to Jean Dark, spokeswoman for DPS.
Elliott was an investigator in the high-profile and infamous Kilgore Kentucky Fried Chicken murders in 1983, when five people were abducted from the restaurant and killed in a remote oilfield in Rusk County.
It was a cold case until DNA testing was conducted on the evidence in 2001, 18 years after the crime. Two men were convicted of the crimes, one in 2007 and another in 2008.
Elliott testified in both trials.
He also has published two books on his experiences in East Texas law enforcement, "A Ranger's Ranger" and "Still a Ranger's Ranger."
