It was a lunch like no other for 9-year-old Daniel. He was joined by the Chick-fil-A cow, making him feel special.

I asked him to tell me about his lunch.

“I had chicken ... French fries and milk,” he said with a big smile.

“He’s a really neat kid. He’s outgoing and he’s come a long ways since he’s been in care,” said April Braugh, his Child Protective Services caseworker. “The foster mom that he’s had has really worked with him.”

Daniel likes to learn new things and he’s doing well in his special education classes. He also gets along well with others and thrives on positive attention.

Braugh said, “He’s friendly. He likes to play with toys. He loves Batman. He also gets a lot out of helping. He likes to make his bed. He’s pretty compliant for things that he’s gone through.”

Daniel has made a lot of progress since being placed in foster care.

“He wasn’t walking as well when he first came in. That’s really helped him and helped with his self-esteem and put more spark in his personality,” Braugh said.

Now Daniel is constantly on the move. This sweet boy is soft-spoken, affectionate and has a lot of love to give. Despite his developmental delays, he is high functioning.

“He has a lot of self-sufficiency. He eats well, sleeps well and plays well. A lot of normal stuff (is) going on with him and he really wants to belong and fit in and be loved like any child,” explained Braugh.

Daniel is unsure what the future holds, but he’s looking forward to a forever family he can depend on, trust and help him reach his academic potential. He needs a family with patience, a compassionate heart and lots of unconditional love and assurance.
