Two All Saints Episcopal School students performed with the best jazz musicians in this region at the Association of Texas Small School Bands Region 21 Jazz Concert in November.

Junior John David Short and senior Andrew Allen were selected for the band, according to an All Saints news release.

They were among 16 students from this region selected.

Short plays bass guitar and Allen plays trumpet.

They spent all day working with Dr. Chris Beaty, jazz professor at Texas A&M University–Commerce, and performed in an evening concert.

William Ross, All Saints’ director of bands, said the region includes 1A to 3A schools from the Van area to Lufkin on the west to the state line on the east.

As part of the selection process, each student auditioned before a panel of judges and all students played the same four songs, Ross wrote.

Four trumpets and one bass guitar were selected for the Region 21 jazz band.
