Bullard High School senior Meredith Daly is the second six weeks recipient of the American State Bank– Academic Excellence Award.

Miss Daly was nominated by Laura Hunter, Bullard High School senior English teacher, according to a bank news release.

There was a three-way tie for the second six weeks winner, but Miss Daly’s extracurricular activities and community involvement brought her to the forefront of the nominations, according to the news release.

She boasts a 4.0 GPA in addition to numerous extracurricular activities, awards, honors and community service hours.

Her many activities include: varsity volleyball (team captain), varsity cheerleading, National Honor Society president, student council (four years), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (girls leader) and 2012 homecoming queen.

Her more than 60 community service hours influence her school, children, senior citizens, athletes and the community at large.

Her excellence in academics, athletics and service have been recognized numerous times.

A sampling of her awards and honors include: 2011 17-3A Volleyball Most Valuable Blocker, Academic All-District, Bullard Rotary Club’s October 2012 “Student of the Month,” and 2012 District 16-3A Volleyball First Team All-District, Academic All-District and Academic All-State.

Ms. Hunter said Miss Daly, who is bound for The University of Texas at Austin next fall, excels at all she does and praised her hard work and determination, according to the news release.

Tim Haugh, American State Bank’s general manager of consumer finance, said Miss Daly clearly works very hard and is involved with her community.

“She is a great asset to the entire Bullard ISD family and community,” he said, according to the news release.

High school counselors at any of 25 eligible schools can nominate seniors for this award.

The bank will select one award recipient every six weeks with all recipients recognized at an end-of-the-year banquet.
