Accusations and rumors sparked an investigation by Chapel Hill ISD officials after students alleged a student was making threats against the high school.

CHISD Director of Operations Jeff Dozier told the Tyler Morning Telegraph the incident began Wednesday when rumors began to circulate that a student had made threats of violence in the school.

“We took these accusations very seriously, and we began to back track the information,” he said. “We talked to several students, and finally the student who was supposed to have made the threats, and we determined the information was not credible.”

Dozier said some of the rumors circulated on Facebook, and as a result nervous parents called the school to find out about the incident.

“We have had some parents take their children out of school, and that is OK, especially at this time. We let out tomorrow for the winter break and we expect attendance to be down over the next two days,” he said.

Dozier said a letter was sent to all staff about the incident to reassure the district there is no credible threat.

“We had quite a number of calls early this morning, but they have decreased,” he said. Dozier added, “We are not on lockdown at this time or have we been at any time to this point.”
