Smith County peace officer arrested
Staff Reports

A peace officer for the Smith County Precinct 1 Constable's office was arrested Monday evening.

Jail records show the 29-year-old man was placed in custody at 6:17 p.m. and has been charged with deadly conduct by discharge of a firearm by an individual.

Henry Jackson, Precinct 1 constable, said the man has worked as a peace officer for about two years.

According to the Texas Penal Code, a person commits the offense if they recklessly engage in conduct that places another in imminent danger of serious bodily injury.

His bond has been set at $25,000.

Jackson declined to give any details of the case, but did say the investigation is being handled by the Tyler Police Department.

"I think it has been handed properly by Tyler," he said.
