Police warn residents of mail theft
Staff Reports
The Tyler Police Department is warning residents to be cautious with their mail and protect their personal information this holiday season.
The department has received several reports of mail being stolen from mailboxes to gain access to personal information, according to a news release.
“We ask that you take your bill payments, or any item of value to a secure mailbox, post office or place them in the postman’s hands,” the release states. “You may also pay your bill online using a secure online account with your provider.”
The department also suggests reviewing bank statements and auditing accounts and reporting any fraud that may have occurred to authorities.
