Gov. Perry must cooperate with Affordable Care Act
Gov. Rick Perry has promised to fight against the Affordable Care Act.
If Governor Perry has refused to expand Medicaid, the health care program for the poor and also a federally-mandated health care exchange for affordable insurance, because he thinks it could bankrupt the state, then Texans should ask Gov. Perry, “If you’re so concerned with the state budget, why did you refuse to live in a well-equipped mobile home, purchased by the state?” Instead, he rented an enormously, expensive mansion with at least six bathrooms and thousands of dollars in yard maintenance upkeep. Was he embarrassed by the old-fashioned trailer mentality?
It seems Gov. Perry is ruinous of the taxpayers’ money and doesn’t care about the poor.
Also, if Perry and his allies in the Legislature get the federal government to give Texas the money it currently receives with no strings attached, Texas could initiate its own program for the disabled and poor. Then it’s possible the funds would be misappropriated and those it was intended for would not receive assistance.

OBAMA’S CRISIS
Everyone is studying the fiscal cliff statements our president has made. Many of us are aware of the crises this appears to be. The fact is our elected leaders will not address the cause of our potential disaster on Jan. 1, 2013.
It’s a known fact that if we cut federal growth spending, we will reduce the threat.
Let’s look at the real cause of our current crises. First, we are giving foreign aid money to many countries of the world, trying to buy friendship.
We have embassies in many countries that don’t want us there. We have military presence in a bunch of countries that flat-out don’t want it.
I am 74, and I have never seen anything change in Washington. Elected people go around from committee to committee and little or nothing changes.
Ladies and gentlemen: We have got to cut federal spending, reduce our military presence in the world and stop printing funny money and blaming someone else.

NATIVITY SCENE
Here we go again. Someone else is trying to force the removal of a nativity scene. I have one thing to say to you whoever you are. If you don’t like looking at a beautiful scene depicting our Lord’s birth, then stop looking. Christians have a right to display whatever we want to too show what Christmas is all about. And you have the right to believe in whatever it is you believe in. But you don’t have the right to try and interfere with our beliefs and our right to display the nativity scene. We have freedom of religion in this country. If you don’t like it, that’s your problem. You have the freedom to leave.

A REAL EDUCATION
In a recent column by Dan Thomasson, a new proposal by the American Federation of Teachers was cited which supposedly would improve “teacher preparedness in specific subjects.”
The AFT’s proposal is a baby step in terms of putting qualified teachers into classrooms.
Thomasson obviously has not seen the “economic cartoon” produced by the California Federation of Teachers (that state’s AFT affiliate). The cartoon was an exercise in idiotic economic theory. It demonized “the rich” crudely, and with every cliché imaginable.
Perhaps Thomasson should ask AFT president Randi Weingarten if this is an example of the teaching tool used to train classroom teachers.
