Tyler Junior College gets clean audit for 2011-12
A clean audit is something Tyler Junior College officials have become accustomed to, but it doesn’t make it any less significant for them.
The accounting firm of Gollob Morgan Peddy issued an unqualified, or clean, opinion of the college’s 2011-12 financial report.
The firm found the financial statements fairly presented the college’s position, according to the report.
In addition, the firm presented no findings or deficiencies, an improvement from last year when they had two.
“This is a very good year for the college, an extremely good year,” certified public accountant Kevin Cashion, said by phone.
Cashion said the college has received a clean audit every year since 1996, when this firm starting filing for them.
In addition, TJC has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 16 years from the Government Finance Officers Association, a professional organization made up of state/provincial and local finance officers in the United States and Canada, according to its website.

Sarah Van Cleef, vice president for business affairs/chief financial officer, praised the work of accounting services director/controller Carol Hutson and her staff saying they did a fabulous job.
Last year, the firm issued a clean opinion as well, but had two findings. One involved the college’s failure to monitor the programmatic aspects of the Adult Basic Education grants.
A second involved the college not returning certain federal student aid funds within the required timeframe after a student withdrew.
The college developed procedures and, in the first case, hired a staff member to address the issues. The firm determined they were corrected, according to the report.
