A.M. update: 12-12-12, mall shooting, fiscal cliff, Christmas countdown

In case you haven't noticed yet, today is 12/12/12, at least the way we number our calendars. This is the last repetitive date you can expect to see in your lifetime. There will be a huge number of weddings held today and many people will be looking for other ways to commemorate this date. A masked gunman, wearing camo, shot multiple people inside an Oregon mall yesterday evening. He killed two others, then himself. He was apparently choosing his targets randomly, and no motive is yet known.
President Obama and Republican leaders continue to meet to discuss the looming 'fiscal cliff,' but no visible progress has been made, with less than 3 weeks until the end-of-year deadline.
And speaking of deadlines, there are 12 days left before Christmas, so if you haven't started getting ready – do it. Do it now.
