Gary Mooring named lone finalist for Tyler ISD superintendent post
Gary Mooring has been named the lone finalist for the superintendent position in Tyler ISD.
The district has to wait the required 21 days before officially hiring him. The position has been vacant since August when former Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid left the district for Keller ISD. Mooring has been serving as interim superintendent since that time.
In November, the board officially began the search posting the job opening on its website at district campuses and the administration building.
The board opted to conduct the search themselves instead of using a search firm as it did the past two searches, in 2007 and 2002.
Mooring has more than 30 years of education experience. He previously served as TISD's interim superintendent in 2007 and as its deputy superintendent for five months in 2006.
He also held several other interim positions and served as a consultant in the district.
Before coming to Tyler, he was superintendent of Bishop Consolidated ISD and Hutto ISD.
