A Tyler man wanted for a felony injury to a child charge in Wood County was captured by Kilgore police after authorities said he ran from a construction site, broke into a home and stole a woman’s cell phone.

Kilgore Police Capt. Roman Roberson said 22-year-old Mikeal Reeves was arrested Friday after he bolted from a construction site in Kilgore.

“Reeves was reportedly working at a new school construction site located at Baughman Road and U.S. Highway 259. Kilgore Officers traveled to the construction site and observed Mikeal Reeves working on a rooftop. He was order(ed) to come down, but quickly ducked out of sight and was seen running from the location and into an adjacent neighborhood,” he said in a prepared statement.

Roberson said Reeves was pursued by police though out the neighborhood, but the man evaded officers by running through several yards, a creek bed and through a culvert.

Roberson said Reeves then forcibly entered a residence in the 2300 block of Redbud Street though the front door and assaulted a houskeeper, stealing the cell phone out of her hands.

Officers located Reeves in a back bedroom of the residence and, after a brief struggle, he was taken into custody by officer Joseph Harrison and Sgt. David Falco.

Mikeal Reeves was booked into the Kilgore Municipal Jail and charged with felony burglary of habitation with a bond of $250,000, evading arrest with a bond of $20,000 and the original Wood County warrant for injury to a child with a bond of $50,000.
