UT Tyler students take 'Outstanding Position Papers' award at Model U.N.

Students from The University of Texas at Tyler received top honors at this year's Southern Regional Model United Nations Conference in Atlanta.
The UT Tyler delegation represented France and received the “Outstanding Position Papers” award for their superior preparation and research, according to a university news release.
Delegation members were Alisa Cerney, of China Spring, Darby Capps, of Kilgore, Bradley Pennington, of Arlington, Joanie Brown, of Conrad, Mont., and Steven Franks, of Tyler.
Franks was recognized as the “Outstanding Delegate” in the International Atomic Energy, for his leadership and collaboration efforts in the committee, according to the news release.
The three-day conference brought together more than 700 students from more than 45 schools to address topics of importance to the international community, according to the news release.
UT Tyler delegates had the opportunity to hone their leadership, speaking, writing and negotiation skills through the conference, according to the news release.
Established in 2006, the award-winning Model United Nations Program at UT Tyler introduces students to international diplomacy and the structures and mandates of the United Nations in a simulation setting.
