Forensic society holding first debate today

The Melvin B. Tolson/Denzel Washington Forensics Society of Wiley College will have its first high school debate tournament on the college's campus today and Saturday.

Students from 14 cities in Texas and Louisiana will converge in Marshall to compete in 12 events at “The Home of the Great Debaters,” according to a college news release.

More than 120 students are scheduled to compete in the tournament.

The tournament will run from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. each day, concluding with the presentation of awards. The public is invited to attend.

Schools set to participate in the tournament are Berkner High School of Richardson; Brownsboro High School; Byron Nelson High School of Trophy Club; Captain Shreve High School of Shreveport, La.; Chapel Hill High School of Mount Pleasant; Gilmer High School; Hallsville High School; Hooks High School; Lewisville High School; Parish Episcopal School of Dallas; Pleasant Grove High School of Texarkana; Royse City High School; Van High School; and Whitehouse High School.
