Fifth annual open house set Thursday

The Fifth Annual Victorian Christmas Open House will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the 1859 Goodman-LeGrand House and Museum, 624 N. Broadway Ave. Admission is free. The home is set back in the nine-acre LeGrand Park and Gardens.
Enjoy all the new displays and vintage Christmas decorations and help celebrate the season during the one-night open house.
Remember old-fashioned Christmas traditions as you tour this 153-year-old historic landmark decorated for the holidays. Christmas Belles will greet visitors as they enter the mansion, and you can meet the Goodman family and friends portrayed by actors in period clothing.
Several Goodman artifacts are on display for the first time this year. Listen to costumed carolers singing traditional Christmas carols, and hear violins, a harp and mountain dulcimer playing inside the mansion. Savor complimentary vintage-style treats under the grand front porch, such as homemade wassail, gingerbread cookies, shortbread scones and holiday punch.
Treat the family to a horse-drawn carriage ride down Broadway for a small fee.
Annie, the miniature donkey, will make a return visit this year in her manger in front of the Goodman.
This event is sponsored by the Tyler Parks and Recreation Department and is part of the Downtown Museum Alliance’s Holiday Open House celebration. Four other downtown museums have their holiday open house at the same time — the Cotton Belt Depot, 210 E. Oakwood St.; Discovery Science Place, 308 N. Broadway Ave.; Smith County Historical Society, 125 S. College Ave., and McClendon House, 806 W. Houston St.
