UT Tyler criminal justice students ranked nationally

Criminal justice majors at The University of Texas at Tyler recently achieved a top national rank on the Major Field Test examination for this semester.
For the second time, UT Tyler is among the top 10 percent of all institutions taking the exam in the field, according to a university news release.
The criminal justice major field test is a nationally normed exam created by the Education Testing Service.
It covers seven subfields including theories of criminal behavior, law, law enforcement, corrections, court systems, critical thinking and research methodology and statistics.
Dr. Barbara Hart, UT Tyler's criminal justice program coordinator and associate professor, said the exam provides a way to compare the quality of UT Tyler's criminal justice program and students' performance to those around the nation, according to the news release.
“Our students need to be able to compete with anyone, and with this exam, they know where they stand,” Dr. Hart said.
UT Tyler's criminal justice program is based on curriculum recommendations from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. It is designed to provide majors with top-notch preparation for criminal justice careers and/or further study in graduate or professional school, according to the news release.
The Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice offers students a focused exposure to the complex aspects of crime and criminal justice from the sociological, psychological, public policy, legal and practitioner perspectives, according to the news release.
