Jasper man dead in southern Tyler County tanker wreck

The driver of a tanker truck is dead after an accident on U.S. Highway 69 in southern Tyler County.
The driver of a tanker truck is dead after an accident on U.S. Highway 69 in southern Tyler County.
DPS officials said the driver was headed north and lost control at about 5:30 a.m. Friday. The truck flipped and caught fire.
The contents of the tank caught on fire and resulted in authorities closing the highway in both directions. Both lanes have since reopened.
The DPS identified the driver as 58-year-old Burtis Woods of Jasper.
The truck is owned by Bill Dover Exxon out of Jasper. It was carrying diesel gas.
The fire also spread to a neighboring home and caused extensive damage, officials said.
