Apache Band, Belles seeking support for trip
Staff Reports

Tyler Junior College is seeking financial assistance for an upcoming trip involving the Apache Band and Apache Belles.

Both student groups will be participating in a Spring Break trip to Japan where they will entertain U.S. troops stationed at Yokosuka Naval Base and Yokota Air Force Base.

They also will visit Yachiyo, Tyler's Sister City.

Each student has committed to personally funding half of the trip's cost as well as participating in fundraising efforts, according to a TJC news release. However, more help is needed.

The trip costs $3,200 per person and the college is seeking sponsorships to help defray the costs for the Apache Band and Belles members, according to the news release.

“This is an ambitious trip,” Ruth Flynn, TJC's Apache Band and Apache Belles development officer and retired Apache Belles director, said. “It's the generous support of TJC alumni and friends that allows the Apache Band and Apache Belles to continue their long tradition as goodwill ambassadors who take Tyler Junior College and Texas-friendly hospitality around the world.”
