Henderson County kicks off holiday activities
The annual Christmas parade and Christmas activities around the Henderson County Courthouse will be held in downtown Athens on Saturday.
Holiday on the Square, an event sponsored by the Light Up Athens Committee of Keep Athens Beautiful, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.
It will feature a holiday market with vendors offering arts and crafts, jewelry, breads, jellies and other items, visits with Santa and the lighting of the Christmas tree.
The city will sponsor the annual parade with the theme "Christmas Around the Square" at 6:30 p.m.
About 30 minutes after the parade, the parade winners will be announced in front of Ginger's Park, with the overall best entry to receive $500.
An After-Parade Party will be at 8 p.m. sponsored by local churches and featuring food, games and a petting zoo.
The Athens Central Business Association will sponsor a free movie at 8:30 p.m. in Ginger's Park.
