Little girl who overcame early health battles tapped to participate in parade
From the way 11-month-old Daniela Guzzetta claps and smiles for the camera, you'd never know this little girl overcame significant health battles shortly after her birth.
“Waiting alone in the recovery room for 25 minutes was the worst ever,” Daniela's father, Joseph, said.
Daniela was born with Down syndrome, and a month after she was born contracted viral meningitis and an upper respiratory infection soon after that.
“Daniela is a true miracle in every sense of the word,” said her pediatrician Dr. Rick Rogers, chief of pediatrics for Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics, in a written release. “She has overcome great obstacles in her short life.”
Daniela was selected as the Children's Miracle Network representative this year. She will participate in the parade on Thursday and light the City of Tyler Christmas Tree at the end of the parade.

“When we were asked to represent Children's Miracle Network, at first we were like, 'What do they do?” Guzzetta said. “Then we learned about everything they'd done for us, and we said, “Of course, we want to help others. We didn't know how Children's Miracle Network helped us. Now we're so grateful.”
The family was relieved to be able to have doctors who could help in Tyler, Carolina Guzzetta, Daniela's mother, said.
Mother Frances is one of the hospitals that receives donations from Children's Miracle Network. Funds from the organization are 100 percent local and provide positions and pediatric equipment that the hospital wouldn't be able to afford otherwise.
“This year's miracle child, Daniela Guzzetta, is a wonderful example of why having a neonatal intensive care unit is so important to families,” Mayor Barbara Bass said. “Through Children's Miracle Network, the Guzzetta family has been able to continue their life and take care of their other child, Luca, with everything right at home.”
