Mineola to renovate water tower
The city of Mineola is slated to begin maintenance on its oldest water well after the first of the year.
City Administrator David Stevenson said city council members approved a contract to Utility Service Company, based in Perry, Ga., to sand blast and repaint the city's oldest water tower, near Walmart on Loop 564. The work will take 60 days to complete and cost $104,000, he said.
Stevenson said the tank was built in 1988, and this type of maintenance will remove any barnacles and hard water buildup that may have accumulated throughout time. He said cities routinely sandblast every 10 years.
The city has six other storage tanks that will be fully operating while work is completed.
“We are not in danger of losing any water or anything like that,” Stevenson said.
Council members also approved a zoning change for 603 Greenville Highway from mixed use to commercial. Stevenson said this was the only property on the street not zoned as commercial and came with a favorable recommendation from the planning and zoning board.
