UT Tyler hosting jazz ensembles concert
Jazz enthusiasts will have the opportunity to hear from local and out-of-state musicians during a concert this week at The University of Texas at Tyler.

UT Tyler's School of Performing Arts will present the UT Tyler jazz ensembles in a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the University Center Theatre, according to a news release.

The public concert will feature two virtuosos, guitarist Ted Ludwig and bassist Bill Huntington, according to the news release.

They will first perform with the UT Tyler Jazz Patriots Combo, followed by the 18-piece UT Tyler Jazz Ensemble before playing a duo set. Dr. John Webb directs both ensembles.

The program will feature Ted Ludwig compositions; an original tune by UT Tyler student Jonathan McSwain of Mabank; and tunes from the Count Basie, Horace Silver, Woody Herman, Gordon Goodwin and Steve Wright libraries, according to the news release.

Ludwig is a world-class jazz guitarist from New Orleans who relocated to Little Rock, Ark., after Hurricane Katrina. There, he continues to write, record and perform jazz.

Huntington is an American bass player and educator, who also relocated to Little Rock after Hurricane Katrina, according to the news release.
